Environmental Impact Statement
South Rochford Road, Pennington County, South Dakota
PIERRE, S.D. – The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) and Pennington County are preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on proposed roadway improvements on South Rochford Road, located south of the Town of Rochford in Pennington County, South Dakota (the Project). The Project would involve roadway improvements to South Rochford Road approximately 12 miles beginning at Rochford and terminating at the intersection of Deerfield Road.
FHWA, SDDOT and Pennington County will appoint up to five members of the public to serve on a public steering committee to represent the different needs and interests of those in and around the Project area (including Hill City and Rochford).
The purpose of this steering committee is to:
- Share project information with stakeholders and community members
- Solicit stakeholder and community perspectives with regard to the Project
- Provide feedback to the joint lead agencies
Members of the public steering committee must have a direct interest in the Project, commit to attending and participating in three meetings (one of which will be a conference call) and communicate with others in their community regarding the Project. The first meeting of the committee is scheduled for July 22, 2014, in Rapid City.
